Summary
Seth and Kendra are recruited into an organization called Dragonwatch. As Dragonwatch members, they have to go be caretakers of a dragon sanctuary called Wyrmroost. They are needed there because the defenses around the keep are failing, and they believe that having human caretakers would strengthen the barrier. The Dragon King senses the weakness of the keep and has attacked it three times already, and the defenses have barely held each time. After being instated they find out that the defenses are still unsecured, and everyone in Dragonwatch scrambles to find answers. The defenses run off a scepter and a medallion, and they gave the scepter to the dragons, so only the medallion remains. The King attacks again, but this time he actually damages the keep meaning their time is running out. Seth and Kendra go to the Fair Folk to meet them, but also to try and get some information about the failing defenses.
The Fair Folk are a noble race that live for a very long time. They are neutral to events that happen in the world, so they will not get involved in what Seth and Kendra are trying to avoid. They give one hint about why the defenses are falling, they say the wizards should not have given away the staff. They also tell them to talk to an immortal knight that kills dragons, and he knows the location of the hidden scepter that is linked to the medallion. They go to retrieve the scepter and get it successfully. On the way back to the keep they get attacked and split up with their guide, Henrick, who has the staff. The kids get back and Henrick is stuck in a safe hut up the hill from the keep, and Seth figures a way to save Henrick and the scepter.
Seth recruits his cousin, Knox, to retrieve the scepter. Since Seths cousin is an oblivious mortal the dragons can not harm him, but since Seth understands the reality of what he did the dragons can follow him anywhere on the preserve and cross any barrier. Knox retrieves the staff unharmed, and Seth flies away on a griffin to the Fairy Shrine. Seth begs to be allowed into the Fairy Realm so that the dragons will not be able to follow him there, and his wishes are granted. The outrages King of dragons requests to talk to Kendra, but with out Seth she can not stand in front of a dragon. She tries any way and roasts the hell out of The King and walks away. The King declares war on humans, and leaves too regroup. The sanctuary is saved!

FAVORITE Quote
The reason this is my favorite quote is because Kendra shows how powerful she really is. Through the book she did some decent things but this is by far the coolest thing she has done. She literally shut Celebrant up with her words, and it is no easy task because most people can not even talk in front of dragons. Let alone roast them until they just can't say anything back. Plus when she is done she just walks away like a total savage.

"You tore down the perch like a vandal! You keep attacking your fellow caretakers! I denounce you! You are fake! You are a joke! You can't even stop two children from taking what you want! I demand you return your scepter! If any of your subjects had the courage of a little girl, they would take your crown! Slink back to your hole, worm"(358).
